Rapid City - Dinosaur Park

When you are a small city, you take pleasure in the small things (like dinosaurs). Dinosaur Park is not a national treasure but a nice stop between the Badlands and the Rockies. Lisa informs me it is on the national registry of historical places. There is a deep connection between the depression and the creation of this park - I won't bore you with details but everyone needs work. Even if it is making a dinosaur park.

The life size models are based on scientists impressions of the time. Today, we would recognize them as more Flinstone-like. One last factoid - you can see the brontosaurus (now called apatosaurus) from anywhere in the city. This seems important to point out.

  1. During the depression, even Fred and Barney were out of work!
