Badlands

On July 9th we arrived in the Badlands for a one night stay.
We explored the south end of the national park that day and evening and
the north end the next morning. It was very hot and dry. Our hotel
was the Budget Host Badland Interior Motel. You had a choice of
Cowboy Stew or Cowboy Stew. Well they did have Buffalo Burgers but Kira and Karly
did not consider that a real choice. The stew cooked for 8 hours. Yum!
The next morning you had a choice of sourdough pancakes or yes ...
sourdough pancakes. They were yummy too. Lisa and Karly tell
me that the starter for the dough was actually 100 years old.
This gives one pause.

Beautiful scenery here. Best viewed from an air conditioned car.

Karly insisted on having a pool at every stop. In the desert this is wise.

No fear of rattlesnakes!! Dan decided not to enter.

View from top of Sheep's table:

Definitley rent a car when driving here.

Kira is first to discover that all these mountains you see, are made of fragile mud.

End of first day in the badlands. Dad suggested we take a walk in the prairie land
between the badlands. Then he got nervous as night approached and we were in the middle of
coyote land - virtually had us running out of the park. We made it out just at sunset.
